Tony Smith - Chapter 6

And he just keeps getting bolder, more audacious ...

Robbery and shooting link to escapee.

ESCAPEE Anthony John Smith is believed to have been involved in a bank robbery and the shooting
of a woman since he escaped two months ago. Police believe Smith, 19, is commuting regularly between Adelaide and Melbourne possibly with his girlfriend who vanished last week.
On March 1 Smith escaped from two Correctional Services officers who were escorting him from the
Adelaide Remand Centre to the Royal Adelaide Hospital so he could visit his sick father.
It is believed he left the city in a taxi.

Police said yesterday they were convinced Smith was one of three men involved in the attempted murder and robbery of a 27-year-old Glengowrie woman in the car park of the Plympton branch of BankSA on Monday, March 8. A witness claims to have seen Smith in the getaway vehicle.
Intelligence sources also have indicated he was one of three men who robbed the ANZ bank at
Torrensville just after 5pm on Friday, March 12.
An investigating officer, Detective Senior Constable Harry Worth, said the last confirmed sighting of him
was a week ago when he met his girlfriend in Adelaide.
Smith's 16-year-old girlfriend has now disappeared and police assume she is travelling with him. Smith is one of three escapees on the run. The others are Brett McFarlane, 32, and Adam Zoanetti, 28, who escaped with Jason Moyle, 27, and Kane Dyer, 23, from the Yatala Labour Prison on Monday, April 9. Moyle and Dyer have since been detained. The four men escaped from Yatala by using bolt-cutters to cut through three fences.
Later that night they walked into the Cavan Hotel on Port Wakefield Rd. McFarlane told the three to wait for him while he made a telephone call, but he has not been seen since.
His three companions waited 40 minutes before they realised McFarlane had left by the back
door. The trio spent the night at a flat in Norwood, where Zoanetti was last seen.
Moyle was found unconscious in parklands near the Adelaide Zoo on Monday, April 12, after overdosing on drugs. Dyer surrendered to police at the Port Adelaide Police Station on Tuesday, April 13.
Detective Senior Constable Worth said the three criminals still on the run had eluded police because of
an "extensive network of close friends and associates". "These people are willing to risk imprisonment themselves to protect these men," he said. "One person has already been charged with harboring an escaped criminal."

  1. How do men in prison get hold of bolt cutters? Aren't they strip searched or something? You know,in the showers, by some big lug called Mad Dog?

  2. River - I would assume that why they have bolt cutters; to keep Mad Dog at bay. As to the how, I would assume here that methods aren't as important as results when it comes to fending off Mad Dog. The thought of those hairy fingers will produce some pretty remarkable results.

  3. Ewww!

Best not think about Mad Dog.

They got them in the same way everyone else gets them in - during a conjugal visit.

  4. Bolt cutters during a CONJUGAL visit? Just how big are these people's rudey bits, I ask?

  5. Shippy - You can ignore him, but you cannot resist him.

Kath - Big enough to fit some hardware in, obviously.
Mad Dog's penis is officially named "Bunnings".

  8. adam zoanetti is someone i know very well, and i know that the reports are not accurate, they originally hid the equipment just to use up a bit of time because they were bored and never expected to actually get away with it. yatala covered up the missing tools by replacing them. the tools were then shifted around various hiding places for some time, but the really stupid bit is that the gaol had piled up a huge stack of palates near the wall which the guys climbed, enabling them to get over the wall. they would have escaped whether they had bolt cutters or not, because once outside the wall all that the had to do was climb a fence made of tennis court wire, easy to climb. they never expected to get away and were surprised that no one stopped them. it was a totally bungled pursuit, which started a lot longer after they had got away than was officially reported. the SA gaol system is grossly negligent, this is just one instance of their incompetence. they also fail to mention that adam zoanetti has escaped from almost every gaol in sa, and the reason that he stayed undetected for so long is they showed the wrong person or tv when publicising the escape, and also when he was finally recaptured, they filmed the wrong person and put footage of someone else on the news, wrongly identifying it as adam. for all his wrong doings adam is an intelligent sensitive person, who just got a shitty deal in life. his childhood forced him into the life of crime that society looks down on him for, yet it was a survival method when as a child he was submitted to unspeakable violence and assaults when in state care, and put in gaol before he ever committed a crime. it is societies fault that he is the way he is. IAN RAMSEY the filthy peadophile who worked with wards of the state including adam zoanetti is the real monster here, along with the violent rapist derrick hudson who worked in various boys homes in south australia. the real issue is why reports of sexual assault and brutal beatings were never investigated, society just wants to bitch about the criminals, but they never stop to think about who created the monster, and why an innocent boys life was ruined. that boy is now a man and they just blame him. but when a person is institutionalised all their lives, they never learn how to get along with the rest of society. gaol is not a rehabilitation centre, it is in fact an animal factory. ask yourselves, have you ever known someone who has gone to gaol and come out a better person??

  9. oh yeah the tools in question were from the gaol workshops were the prisoners work for an absolute pittance (which on another subject is a breach of the geneva convention, the poor conditions and low pay that the government capitalises on and exploits these disadvantaged people. the things they produce are then sold at an enormous profit by companies such as west coast cooler and freedom furniture. )

  10. Anonymous.... you seem to know a lot about me, my escape and my life details why remain anonymous...your account is very fitting but not entirly correct and being posted only this year leaves me wondering who and why I'm being googled by hmmm and isnt freedom furnitures slogen I funny 1 "THINK OUTSIDE OF THE SQUARE YOU LIVE" yatla has found its loophole in the breach of the geneva convention by by allowing people to work fore prime industries rather than the prison and yes my job there at the time was making card tables I was paid 15 cents for each 1 I made after compleating 40 prim's quota prime industries should be STOPPED from using prisoners to maximise profits for large companies but there venture is growing and being implemented in other prison's as for IAN RAMSAY found incompetent to stand for trial I have been left with a drug addiction, constant pannic attacks and cronic anxiety I still suffer from today thakfully it is treated and under controll and yes goal is a loveless place and wen you get no love you forget how to give it especially when society as a whole it seems wants it that way and should be reminded that we are sent to goal as a punishment not to be punished I don't like having well part of my life's story on google for all the world to see because it takes a lot out of context remember we are all just products of all our past expereances where the lead you can be different for each individual 1 last point the abuse startted at age 11 I am still waitig for compensation from the SA government who are making things as hard as possable seems to me that there is no caring or compassion in this world I was imprisoned in 1998 and released in 2003 I have not been back since if the prisons continue to treat people as animals is it any wonder we have so many animals walking our streets lets not forget we all get released "OR ESCAPE" 1 day

  12. Brett Mcfarlane is evil to the core and needs to be eradicated from the face of the earth. I would gladly flick the switch on any electric chair.
.....and how am I qualified to make this statement ??
It was my throat he slit many years ago in Adelaide and burried me alive in the adelaide hills.

    2. You are so misimformed Anonymous. I was simply driving home when he jumped out in front of my car. Until that point I had never laid eyes on him before. At no point during the court case did he ever say I gave him drugs although he did claim to have been on drugs at the time. Thats a huge difference. Any drugs he was on didn't come from me. To this day I don't believe he was on any drugs as he was totaly in control of himself. If you are going to make ridiculous statements like this, make sure you know the facts or take the time to read the police reports.

  14. Hey anonymous, I can't believe I found your post about having your throat slit and buried alive in the hills- I'm researching a magazine article that includes that crime! I've been trying to dig up info on McFarlane. Is there any chance you would agree to be interviewed? Your anonymity would be guaranteed if you wish. If anyone else knows anything about this crime I'd love to hear about it. You can reach me on 08 8391 0144. Anyone who knows who anonymous is please pass this message on.

An explanation of The Joy Division Litmus Test

Although it may now be lost in the mysts of thyme, the poll below is still relevant to this blog. In the winter of 2008, Mele and I went to live in Queensland. In order to survive, I bluffed my way into a job at a Coffee Club.
It was quite a reasonable place to work: the hours were regular, the staff were quite nice, it wasn't particularly taxing on my brain.
There were a few downsides: In the six weeks or so that I worked there, there was about a 90% staff turnover (contributed to by my leaving). This wasn't seen as a result of the low pay, the laughability of staff prices or the practice of not distributing tips to staff, rather it was blamed on the lack of work ethic among Bribie Island's youth.
However, one of the stranger aspects of the cultural isolation that touched our lives during our time "up there" was the fact that nobody at my work had heard of the band Joy Division.
The full explanation is available here.
But please, interact a little further and vote in my ongoing poll. The results are slowly mounting up, proving one thing: people read this blog are more well-informed about Joy Division than anyone who works at the Coffee Club on Bribie Island.

Have you heard of the band Joy Division?

Champions of Guess The Header

  • What is Guess The Header about? Let’s ask regular “Writing” reader, Shippy: "Anyway, after Franzy's stunning September, and having a crack at 'Guess The Header' for the first time - without truly knowing what I was doing mind you - I think I finally understand what 'GTH' is all about. At first I thought you needed to actually know what it was. Don't get me wrong — if you know what it is, it may help you. I now realise that it's more Franzy's way of invoking thought around an image or, more often than not, part of an image. If you dissect slightly the GTH explanatory sentence at the bottom of his blog you come up with this: “The photo is always taken by me and always connects in some way to the topic of the blog entry it heads up.” When the header is put up, the blog below it will in some obscure way have something to do with it. “Interesting comments are judged and scored arbitrarily and the process is open to corruption and bribery with all correspondence being entered into after the fact and on into eternity, ad infinitum amen.” Franzy judges it, but it's not always the GTH that describes the place perfectly that gets it. “The frequent commenters, the wits, the wags and the outright smartarses who, each entry, engage to both guess the origin and relevance of the strip of photo at the top (or “head”) of each new blog and also who leave what I deem the most interesting comment.” It generally helps if you're a complete smartarse and can twist things to mean whatever you feel they should mean - exactly the way Franzy would like things to be twisted." - Shippy Blogger and GTH point scorer.
